MINDFULNESS

“Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you’re mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience.”

We have been using mindfulness practices, and meditation with our own children and those in our programs for many years.

Mindfulness has profound benefits across the human span of ages, and experience.  For young children, mindfulness helps children develop social and emotional regulation that results in greater self-awareness, less stress, and higher levels of happiness and empathy.

We use techniques learned through games and  daily practice for mindful sensing, including, breathing, movement, eating, listening, hearing, smelling, and feeling.  We support children’s social learning through social mentoring, theory of mind, mindfulness, and other supports.

Many mindfulness practitioners have developed programs for children.   Recent brain research has shown that even 2-3 minutes a few times a day has a large impact on the brain development of children.
